Vertical turbine pumps are primarily used wherever submersible pumps are not available, as the flow is higher than the turbine's range, or because the owner prefers a conventional motor mounted on top of the pump. Horizontal turbo pumps are commonly used for drilling to provide agricultural or lawn irrigation, or to provide water supply to municipalities that rely on groundwater rather than surface water.
